Jesus Taught It Too (The Early Roots Of The Law Of Attraction)

Chapter Seven

How does a person achieve this state of knowing? How is it possible not to worry about the problems we may be facing today
or those that may arise tomorrow? Critics would argue that you must plan for the future. Protect yourself from future financial
perils or possible health issues. The notion of “live for today” is perhaps just a hippie hold over from the 60’s that is
dangerous and should be discarded. However consider this. Perhaps the teachings of Jesus were, in fact, the basis of the rebellious
culture that shook the West in the 60’s and 70’s.
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore
no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every
one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
What is the Kingdom of God? Throughout the ages this phrase has been abused and misused. For many the Kingdom Of God is a
place somewhere “up there.” If, as many believe, God is omnipresent, or everywhere, then obviously there is no place that
God is not. Jacob said whether I ascend to heaven or descend to hell, God is there. If this is true, the Kingdom of Heaven
is as equally here as it is anywhere. The only reason we do not perceive it is because we are not aware of it in our conscious
mind.
The Kingdom of Heaven is in each of us. It is not a place, but all places. It is not “out there,” since it is everywhere.
Jesus is telling us to become aware of the Kingdom of Heaven, to bring it into conscious awareness and then all that we desire
will be made manifest. All that we desire already exists in potential, we just need to accept the blessings and bring the
potential into what we call reality. In this space, there is no need to “take thought.” The Kingdom of Heaven is in, around
and everyplace in between.
Awareness of the omnipresent Kingdom eliminates the need to worry about tomorrow and what the future may bring. This does
not mean that it is wrong to be concerned with the future, but do not worry about it. The Universe will guide whatever action
may be necessary to deal with tomorrow. We all know that we often cross the proverbial bridge before we get there.
We are so concerned that tomorrow may not be to our liking that we stress out over imagined events and often make ourselves
ill. The illness often manifests in the form of heart disorder, stomach ulcers and even cancer. If we tell the Universe that
we are worried about what may come, our message is for the Universe to bring more worry or to even manifest that which we
worry about. Jesus says to focus upon the present, the now, for sufficient are the evils today that we should address that
which is before us, not what may come. When Jesus talks of evil, he is not saying that in the commonly presented way. By evil
he is merely referring to the trials of everyday life.
When your consciousness is in the Kingdom of Heaven state, what is commonly referred to as “The Christ Consciousness,” Ask and it shall be given you. This and the next few phrases are perhaps the most quoted with regards to the Law of Attraction. It is clear that Jesus did
not say “plead, beg or demand and it shall be given unto you.” When you are in “Christ consciousness,” you merely ask and it shall be given to you. The operative word here is conscious. Most of our lives we are not aware of our true estate.
This does not mean that we are outside of the “Kingdom” for that is clearly impossible. What is happening is that we are unconsciously
utilizing the Law of Attraction but by not monitoring our thoughts, we attract both desirable and undesirable events.
An important way to look at this principle is to read it in the verse. What has been given unto you is what you have asked
for. There is little doubt that few will ask for cancer, unemployment, rape, war, starvation, and auto accident or any of
the myriad of tragedies that may befall humanity. Unfortunately, this is incorrect thinking. In some manner, shape or form
all that happens to you, you have created.
Perhaps a new Law or principle should be introduced, the Law of Responsibility. This law or principle states that each person is totally responsible for the all of the events that occur in their life. Most
people do not want to hear this. It is easier to blame our social environment, our upbringing (or lack thereof), where we
live, our teachers, our parents, some demonized enemy, the government, the police, the kids down the street, a mythical evil
spirit, or even God itself for all of our ills. It may be easier, but it is not true. We truly reap what we sow, spiritually,
mentally, emotionally and physically.
“Seek and ye shall find.” The Universe does place a burden upon us. It asks that we take action and seek the truth. While it would be nice if we could
just sit and receive an influx of revelation or be struck with lightning like Saul, this happens to the few. It is not impossible,
but few have the dedication to spend the time necessary to enter a life of contemplation. We have to search within our hearts
and minds that which we truly desire and not be distracted by other things. When casually asked what we want from life the
quick response is usually the new car, more money, fame, glory and a host of other desires that stem from our mass culture.
There is nothing wrong with any of these things and the Universe will provide if this is what we want. However if this is
what we most want most, don’t be surprised if we then lack spiritual insight. Seek and ye shall find, but pay attention to
exactly what it is you are seeking.
“Seeking” implies a quest in which we dig a bit deeper into our psyche to truly sort out the wheat from the chaff. It is not
necessarily the things that we want, but rather the condition in our lives that the things may bring us. Money may give you
a sense of security, peace of mind and freedom from worry. Thus what is really sought is not the money but rather the sense
of security and peace of mind.
Keep in mind that we do not need to tell the Universe how it will fulfill our desires. Simply express heartfelt nature of
those desires. The Universe may provide the money to fulfill our deepest hopes if it deems that is the best way to do so.
However, it may not. Don’t worry about how the gift is delivered or how it is wrapped. Rejoice in the gift. If you want money
for a new home but the Universe just provides the home instead of the money, accept and rejoice. Many go astray with the Law
of Attraction by dictating to the Universe the way in which a wish is granted.
In doing so you place restrictions on all of the infinite ways wishes can be fulfilled and thereby restrict your own opportunities.
It is the "forest for the tree syndrome". An opportunity may be presented, but because your focus is on what you think is
the best way to meet your desires, you pass up other options that may be even more beneficial.
Also note that with regards to seeking, the action required is not just mental. Seeking demands that you put into motion all
of the resources at your disposal and take advantage of all the opportunities presented. If you seek that perfect soul mate,
you will not find him or her by staying stuck in your home. You have to get out in order to “meet” the opportunities.
Similarly if you seek the perfect job, it is incumbent upon you to check the want ads and talk or write to others about your
desires. The job of the Universe is to set the energies in motion, it is up to you to be in the right place at the right time.
If wealth is sought and you suddenly get an idea for a new business, a new employment opportunity or are asked to join a group
or organization, this may be the way the Universe is acting to help you find what you desire.
Remember also the Law of Responsibility. What you find in your life, in some way you have brought into manifestation. If you
do not like what you find, it is your responsibility to seek again. This is not a ball game. It is “not” three strikes and
you are out. The game of life has no set quarters or time limits. There is no fourth down where you are forced to punt. Your
opportunities are endless, regardless of what you have been told and despite appearances to the contrary.
“Knock, and it shall be opened up to you.” Once again we are asked to take action. Almost every waking moment, we are faced with choices or doors that we either choose
to enter or pass by. Many go through life entering and exiting doors that are controlled by others. Little thought is given
as to the nature of the door and where it may lead. Like the old time carnivals, we are told to “step right in for the thrill
of a lifetime.” It is sad how many succumb to this entreaty.
Those who are successful in life choose the doors upon which they knock. If the experience in the place they enter is negative,
they do not view it as a mistake. Rather, they view it as an opportunity to better determine which door they will knock on
next. Remember, the places you have entered have been your choice. Knowingly or unknowingly, you have knocked upon that door
and, without judgment, the door was opened unto you.
The formula presented by Jesus seems very simple. Ask and you receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door is opened.
Out of context, the formula is simple but it must be remembered that other “conditions” apply. Too many have sought to present
the Laws of Attraction and Responsibility in this simple way. The non-believers are perhaps rightly justified in their skepticism.
They can point to many examples where this prescription for success has failed and thereby reject the entire concept. The
key is to keep in mind the context. You must come from a place of no judgment; you must be in the light and have clarity of
thought. You must be in the Kingdom. There can be no doubt or worry and you must see the fields already white with the harvest
in order for the process to work. These and several other key principles provide the context for attracting and manifesting
your “new earth” and your “new heaven.”
